چکیده
Integrating nano- to micro-sized dielectric fillers elastomer matrices form composites is one of the commonly utilized methods improve performance actuators (DEAs). Barium titanate (BaTiO3) among widely used ferroelectric for this purpose; however, calcium copper CaCu3Ti4O12 (CCTO) has potential outperform such conventional fillers. Despite their promising performance, CCTO-based DEA application are studied a relatively lower degree. Particularly, characterized comparably small particle loading range, while critical properties as breakdown strength and nonlinear elasticity barely addressed in literature. Thus, study, CCTO was paired with polydimethylsiloxane (CH3)3SiO[Si(CH3)2O]nSi(CH3)3 (PDMS), Sylgard 184, gain comprehensive understanding effects size on composite important applications. The composites’ described through figures merit (FOMs) that consider materials’ Young’s modulus, permittivity, strength. optimum amounts filler were determined FOMs maximize performance. Lastly, electromechanical testing pre-stretched CCTO-composite validated improved over plain DEA, deviations from prediction attributed nonlinearity.

Modeling of a Dielectric Elastomer Bender Actuator
The current smallest self-contained modular robot uses a shape memory alloy, which is inherently inefficient, slow and difficult to control. We present the design, fabrication and demonstration of a module based on dielectric elastomer actuation. The module uses a pair of bowtie dielectric elastomer actuators in an agonist-antagonist configuration and is seven times smaller than previously demo...

We demonstrate the use of dielectric elastomer actuators (DEAs) for mechanical stimulation of cells in vitro. The development of living tissues is regulated by their mechanical environment through the modification of fundamental cellular functions such as proliferation, differentiation and gene expression. Mechanical cues have been linked to numerous pathological conditions, and progress in cel...

In this work we present a new fabrication technique to print thin dielectric elastomer actuators (DEAs), reducing the driving voltage below 300 V while keeping good actuation performance. With operation voltages in the kV-range, standard DEAs are limited in terms of potential applications. Using thinner membranes is one of the few existing methods to achieve lower operation voltages. Typical DE...
متن کاملOn designing dielectric elastomer actuators
Subject to a voltage, a dielectric elastomer can deform substantially, making it a desirable material for actuators. Designing such an actuator, however, has been challenging due to nonlinear equations of state, as well as multiple modes of failure, parameters of design, and measures of performance. This paper explores these issues, using a spring-roll actuator as an example. We formulate the e...
متن کاملDielectric Properties and Morphology of Ferroelectric Ceramic-Polymer Composite Films
Dielectric constant and morphology of BaTiO3-polymer composite films were studied as a function of the filler concentration. The morphology of the films was examined using laser scanning confocal microscopy, which is capable to measure small particle distributions in more details than conventional microscopy. The thin-slice images allowed us to visualize the micronsize particles and the polymer...
